ATTENTION: FILM PROJECT HIRING

Looking for a videographer and coordinator to film and edit a project by nonprofit organization, Salaam Urban Village Association!

Read about us here: http://salaamurbanvillage.org

Applicant should have the following:

a)      Experience in volunteer coordinating

b)      Videography experience

c)      Experience with working with refugee communities

d)      Fundraising skills

e)      A Bachelors degree

f)        Computer skills (40 wpm)

Lastly, applicant must be highly motivated, self-started, and capable of working with little to no supervision.

This position is part time. Pay rate is negotiable and/or based on experience.

The ideal completion date for this project will be in 6 months or less. There will be a one month review in which the coordinator’s performance will be evaluated.

The purpose of the film project is to preserve and share the rich stories and voices of three generations of immigrants and refugees that would otherwise be lost.

The hired coordinator will record conversations and interviews across three different generations in families from at least three different East African countries (such as Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Sudan). In the case of at least one-third of these interviews we hope to have intergenerational conversations within the same family to capture a sense of the changing attitudes, perceptions, and expectations of the family’s journey to a new home.

SUVA "Summer Math and Reading Camp"
08-20-2010. SUVA has successfully completed its second-year Summer Math and Reading Camp for elementary through middle school kids on August 20th, 2010. The program focused on teaching math and reading skills in preparation to the grade level each student anticipates to enroll in for the school year of 2010-2011. As the end celebration of the summer camp, the students took a field trip to the Science Pacific Center where learning is made interesting.

SUVA would like to thank City of Seattle Neighborhood Matching Fund for their generous support for making this program a success. Thank you!
