Our name says it all – Salaam Urban Village Association. Salaam means peace in many languages and traditions. We are all about peacemaking and relationships built on mutual respect. We are an association of researchers, practitioners, scholars, community members and communities that share a common interest in supporting an emerging generation of African leaders. We are an urban village in the sense that our organization was first formed to serve the migrant and refugee communities from East Africa living in urban centers in the West. Under our new expanded focus, we offer our services to the global village linking communities in Africa with communities–especially those that are migrant and refugee centers– in the rest of the world.
Our focus is on supporting both global and local leadership and enhancing the skills of an emerging generation of African leaders. We do so through education, training, community organizing and building international relationships.
